Portuguese Professional Soccer
Born July 30, 1993, in Grijó, Porto, André Filipe Tavares Gomes is a Portuguese professional footballer who currently plays for the English club Everton FC, as a central midfielder.
His passion for football was revealed really early and at the age of 7 he joined FC Porto where he played until he turned 15. He then went to Boavista FC before signing for SL Benfica youth system at the age of 18, playing his last year as a junior with the Lisbon club. After Benfica he made a move to the Spanish Valência CF where he remained for two great seasons and attracted the attention of the biggest clubs in the world, convincing FC Barcelona to make a move by signing him on a 5 year permanent deal. He remained with the club Culé between 2016 and 2018, until Everton confirmed their interest on the talented and skilled midfielder, signing him on loan with a buying option. In 2019/20 Everton FC decided on a permanent deal and sealed it, also for 5 seasons. Since then, he’s been delighting the fans and the surrounding community with his amazing football and charming personality.
Gomes made his international debut for the Portugal National team on September 7, 2014, playing the full 90 minutes in a 0–1 Euro 2016 qualifiers loss against Albania. He’s been regularly called to play for Portugal ever since and made history when winning the UEFA Euro 2016, in France.
